Youth Volunteers

LGBT Center of Raleigh Youth Leadership Team: the team of youth ages 13-18 that run most of the youth programs at the LGBT Center of Raleigh. The QueerNC statewide coordination team and local Raleigh events team are part of this team in addition to the coordinators of Youth Coffee House, TpartE and the ASPYRE Leadership Camp. The youth work with experienced adult volunteers that help them with logistics and planning. Youth make all the decisions for the team. The Youth Leadership Team applications open March to April each year and the commitment to serve is from May to through the following June. We need local youth for coordinating the in person events, but we also are seeking youth from across the state to help with the website, collecting resources for your area and helping with statewide coordination of efforts.

The 2017-2018 application process has concluded. Other volunteer opportunities will be posted when available. Thank you!

Establish a Local Organizing Committee (Youth and Adults): We are currently seeking youth interested in establishing local committees to hold events and help youth in their local area of North Carolina. Also, if you are an adult that works with an organization that could help support a local youth team we need you too. The center has resources for this project to assist in starting the new committees. Please email the Initiative Coordinator if you would like more information.

Adult Volunteers

The LGBT Center of Raleigh offers many opportunities for involvement. Our operations volunteers serve in a variety of capacities mostly pertaining to staffing the Center. Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to answering the phone, greeting guests, helping manage the LGBT Center's library, and assisting with special events.

We also have multiple adult programs that may need coordination assistance. Check out www.lgbtcenterofraleigh.com for more information on the variety of programs the center offers.

The Adult coordinators for the Youth Initiative are required to have at least six months of experience as a volunteer with the center and then are interviewed by the youth leaders and initiative coordinator.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Center, fill out our volunteer profile to attend one of our orientations and learn more about becoming a volunteer. During the session, you will learn about our programs and have an opportunity to meet our staff members and key volunteers.

Volunteer orientation is held the first Saturday of every month at 11:00 AM.

Walk-ins are welcome; however, refreshments will be provided, so we prefer that you register at least 24-hours in advance to allow us enough time to plan accordingly. For more information, please email us.

Current volunteers may access their account and schedule shifts here.
