The Lauren Jaquays LGBTQ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer & Questioning) Youth Alliance provides a forum for communication and dialogue and is committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and inquiry with particular respect to sexual orientation and gender identity for youth 12-18 within Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties.
The Lauren Jaquays LGBTQ Youth Alliance facilitates transgender, queer, gay, lesbian and bisexual visibility by promoting and enhancing awareness, understanding and acceptance regarding issues of sexual orientation and gender identity being faced by residents in Watauga, Ashe and Avery. Its focus is to provide a supportive community network and resource for LGBTQ youth 12-18 years of age, including out and open individuals, questioning or closeted individuals and youth being bullied at school, contemplating suicide or facing expulsion from their homes.
The Lauren Jaquays LGBTQ Youth Alliance serves as a visible and accessible safe space for youth identifying as LGBTQ or an ally. We welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and encourage involvement in helping to promote acceptance and equality for all LGBTQ citizens of the High Country.
