Tragic loss of local LGBTQ+ Youth sparks scholarship fund

Yesterday, Center staff learned of the tragic passing of 14-year-old Scout Undercoffer. Scout’s loving parents reached out to set up a scholarship fund through the LGBT Center of Raleigh in their child’s name. We are deeply moved the Undercoffer family wishes to create a legacy of support for LGBTQ+ youth.

Mrs. Undercoffer shared, “Scout was about to be one of the world’s most fierce LGBT advocates.” We grieve the untimely loss of this young person, a champion for equity, and a compassionate soul. Please keep the Undercoffer family and all those who knew and loved Scout in your thoughts during this heartbreaking time.

We want to also remind youth if you need to reach out to someone during this time of grief you can call or text the Trevor Project’s 24/7 Hotline 1-886-488-7386 to speak with trained counselors who are here to support LGBTQ+ Youth.
